Meditation expert Allan Cooper to give a lecture on “Training the Mind/Heart in Formal Retreat” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010.

Cooper is just returning from four months of formal retreat practice in Lumbini, Nepal, where he studied in the Mahasi tradition of Vipassana meditation under the guidance of Sayadaw U. Vivekanada. For the past 25 years, he has taken periods of 1-4 months for the study and practice of Vipassana and/or Samatha meditation every year.

Being a lay person, yet taking so much time for formal retreat practice, gives him a unique perspective on how the Buddha’s teachings of meditation can be of service to the individual and to the many while still maintaining a lay life.

This Event will happen on the UWest campus.
