The Western Association of Schools and Colleges has extended accreditation for University of the West until 2014.

The WASC commission voted at its February meeting in Sacramento, Calif., to grant UWest an extension of accreditation in order to implement several key WASC recommendations from the commission’s visit in December 2010.

WASC will visit the UWest campus in late 2012, to evaluate UWest’s progress in the areas of student learning outcomes, clarifying the university’s mission and matters indicated by WASC.

UWest was accredited by WASC in February 2006.

WASC’s Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities is responsible for the evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of colleges and universities offering the baccalaureate degree and above in California, Hawaii, Guam, and the Pacific Basin, according to its Web site.
