Danny and SharonRev. Danny Fisher, Coordinator of the Buddhist Chaplaincy Program, and Dr. Amy Demyan, Coordinator of the Psychology Program, represented UWest at a recent benefit for InsightLA at The First United Methodist Church in Santa Monica, CA.

The event was headline by Sharon Salzberg, one of the best-known teachers of Vipassana meditation in the United States; the co-founder (along with Jack Kornfield and Joseph Goldstein) of the Insight Meditation Society and Barre Center for Buddhist Studies; and the author of such books as Faith: Trusting Your Own Deepest Experience, Lovingkindness: The Revolutionary Art of Happiness, and the current New York Times-bestseller Real Happiness: The Power of Meditation – A 28-Day Program.

Fisher was also granted an interview with Salzberg that was subsequently published at Shambhala Sun Space. Dr. Demyan also wrote about the event at her website AmyKnowsBest.com.

“Sharon is not only one of the most prominent and important figures in the transmission of Buddhism and Buddhist ideas to North America, but she’s also just a delight-everybody loves her because she embodies these things that she’s always talking about, like lovingkindness, faith, and happiness,” says Fisher.

InsightLA and UWest are co-conference partners in the upcoming Buddhist Geeks | The Conference, which will be held at UWest from July 29th-31st. You can register for the event here.
