- From the President
Congratulations to all of you who are graduating!
On May 18, the faculty, staff, and I will be celebrating your academic accomplishments at the UWest Commencement ceremony, and we are proud to have been your learning partners during this journey. While all of us at UWest played our parts, we must not forget the commitments your families have made in supporting you. I encourage you, therefore, to invite your family and friends to join us in this wonderful celebration.
In addition to your academic classes, the UWest mission strives to provide you with a whole-person education in a context informed by the wisdom and values of Buddhism and to facilitate cultural appreciation and understanding between East and West. This mission translates into four important guiding principles that form the foundation of the university's Institutional Learning Outcomes: Wisdom and Skillful Means, Self-Awareness, Liberation, and Interdependence. These four principles have been integral parts of your education. UWest's faculty and staff have worked to make sure that you were thoroughly prepared for academic and professional success, developed a deep understanding of yourself and those around you, appreciated the many cultures and beliefs to which you have been exposed, and recognized the global interdependence represented by all your fellow students, faculty, and staff.
Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. You are now ready to take your place in society and make positive contributions as you continue to grow and learn.
Wishing you the best of success,
