2013 Commencement Event Instructions

Graduation day rapidly approaches! Here are some instructions and details about this important event. If you have questions on the day of the ceremony, we will have staff and volunteers on hand to assist you before and during the ceremony. After? You’re a college graduate – I know you’ll figure it out!

Please be punctual! We want you to look your best at graduation – rehearsing helps.

General Information

The ceremony will be held on campus in the Auditorium and will last approximately two hours.

Faculty regalia
have already been received and may be picked up from Alma. Student regalia should arrive the week of May 4th. Students will be notified via email when they have arrived. Please note that you will want to pick your gown up at least a few days before the ceremony – gowns come folded so some pressing may be needed.

On the day of the ceremony, we recommend that you wear something lightweight under your gown, as these gowns can be warm.  It is also recommended that you not bring a purse or other such item as you will have nowhere to leave it during the ceremony.

We do not limit the number of guests allowed, and tickets are not required. Each graduate is allotted 10 invitations, but you are not restricted to just 10 guests. Come by the Registrar’s office to pick up your invitations if you have not already done so!

The auditorium will be opened for guest seating at 1 pm, AFTER the rehearsal is over. Please note that while we are very pleased to open our doors to celebrate with your family and friends, photo sessions, rehearsal, and line-up are for students only.

The ceremony will be followed by an informal reception in the courtyard. This is an excellent time to introduce your family to your favorite professors and staff, and to show off your family to same.

Cap & Gown Return

Students: No return needed.  The regalia is yours to keep.

Faculty: Please drop your cap and gown off inside the Auditorium immediately after the group photo.
