Fall 2019 REL Lecture Series

September 24 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The REL department will be hosting a series of lectures and discussions.

The first will be on the topic of : Modern Practice of Mandala Meditation

Location AD208

In recent decades Buddhist mandalas have become increasingly popular.

Mandalas are now perceived as “aids” or “tools to meditation” and designated as “meditation diagrams” and “meditational art”.  Prof. Buhnemann will provide an overview of the contemporary use of mandalas as aids to and objects of meditation, contrasting this usage with traditional functions of mandalas in Buddhist tantric ritual.

Prof. Gudrun Buhnemann, Ph.D.
Professor in the Department of Asian Language and Cultures
University of Wisconsin, Madison
