Spring 2012 ICBS Seminar: “Humanistic Buddhism: Past, Present, and Future” Call for Paper

Dear Students!

The Institute of Chinese Buddhist Studies (ICBS) is glad to invite the submission of individual papers for Spring 2012 ICBS Seminar “Humanistic Buddhism: Past, Present, and Future” scheduled for April 16-17, 2012 at the University of the West.

The seminar is designed for University of the West’s graduate students to elevate their academic excellence and hopefully outreach the National and International forums on relevant Buddhist studies. ICBS will provide sponsorship to attend Association for Asian Studies (AAS) annual meeting 2012 in Toronto, Canada, March 15 –18, 2012. AAS was found in 1941, the annual meeting now is one of the largest national and international Asia studies meetings. Students will have chances to meet scholars from all around the world, attend different academic panels, and learn presentation skills. On April’s ICBS Seminar, students should report the conference experience and present their own papers. Ph.D and MA students on Religious Studies program and MDiv students on Buddhist Chaplaincy program who work on different areas relevant to Humanistic Buddhism are encouraged to apply.

Deadlines:
500-word paper proposal should be submitted by January 25;
Pre-selected proposals will be noticed by February 1;
Students need to take an interview for final acceptance, which will be announced by February 7;
Completed papers selected for delivery at the conference will be due no later than March 25 in order to allow time for editing and printing.

Sponsorship:
ICBS will provide $500 for each student to attend AAS conference and ICBS Seminar. Applicants selected are expected to participate in both events (AAS conference and ICBS Seminar).Students should be responsible for their own trip plan, including Visa, membership fee, conference fee, etc. You should register with AAS www.aasianst.org, as well as schedule the trip plan as soon as possible to save some money because the low price for student per-Registration rates is due on February 15, 2012.

PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

1. Papers should be 15-20 pages, double-spaced, fonts- 12-point in size;
2. Submitted papers are selected based on the quality and relevance to the main theme of the ICBS Seminar 2012;
3. A 20-minute Power Point presentation of your paper is required.
