General Information: UWest has two residence halls, though regular students currently only live in Hall A. Hall B is generally used for special immersion groups who come for short periods to study English, usually in the spring and summer semesters. As you can see from the pictures above, our rooms are quite spacious. Each room also has its own hotel-style bathroom. UWest provides one set of bed sheets, a pillow and a blanket to each resident. You may want to purchase extra blankets or sheets after you arrive. All rooms come equipped with a basic telephone and internet access. New residents will need to contact the IT department to set up internet access after they arrive. Telephones require the use of a calling card for all off-campus calls. Telephone cards should use a 1-800 number or you will not be able to use them. You must dial “9” and then the 800 number to make your call. To call on-campus, simply use the three digit extension number. Please note that UWest is a dry campus, meaning alcohol is not allowed anywhere on campus property. All of the buildings are also smoke free. Smoking areas have been designated outside for your use. Students under 18 are prohibited to smoke according to California State Law. There is a lounge with a TV in both Hall A and Hall B on the first floor. These lounges are popular gathering spaces for residents. Both residence halls also have study rooms. There are several computers with internet access available in the study room in Hall A. Both study rooms are strictly quiet study areas. We require students, who need to work on a group project, to choose elsewhere, so that the places remain quiet spaces for other residents. Between the two residence halls are a swimming pool and a spa, and a small lawn with a gazebo. You’ll sometimes find residents kicking a soccer ball around on the lawn, or relaxing in the spa after a long day studying and working. Across from the residence halls is the Dining Hall, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, except certain holidays. On the weekends, students can use the Student Kitchen below the Dining Hall to cook meals. You’ll often find students relaxing together watching television and enjoying a meal. Also below the Dining Hall is Gym room with weight lifting and cardio exercise equipment, and Game room, with ping pong and pool available. Students check-out Game room equipment from the Residential Life office in the Lobby Area of Hall A and return it when they are finished. The university bookstore is also located under the Dining Hall, and is generally open from 8:30am to 11:00am and from 12:00pm to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Application Information: The application information must be filled in by all residents regardless of the type of room requested. This information will help us match you with an appropriate roommate should you be required to have one and to determine the kinds of programs we will offer throughout the academic year. Please give us the most accurate information possible, and do not worry about making yourself “look good” by saying, for example, that you do not smoke when in fact you do. Inaccurate information will lead to bad roommate matches. Please note that spaces are limited in the residence hall. We will make every effort to accommodate your room type preferences, in the order that you have listed them. Please also check on the cost of the room type you are requesting before you submit your application. Contact the Department of Residential Life or your Admissions representative for current cost information. A security deposit of $150.00 is required to hold the room. Furthermore, submitting this application online initiates an assignment to university residential life and that subsequent rent charges will be assessed to your account after a contract is generated. The choices for room assignments on the application are preferences only. UWest Residential life will make every effort to honor room type choices, roommate requests and smoking preferences, but they are not guaranteed. Please also understand that submitting this application alone does not guarantee you a space in university residential life. Please read and understand the Residence Hall Rules and understand that they are subject to change at any time. Any changes to the Residence Hall Rules will be communicated to you in writing.
