Undergraduate students may enroll in a maximum of 18 units per semester. Graduate students may enroll in a maximum of 9 units per semester. Students who wish to take more than the maximum number of units may fill out a General Petitions form and submitted to the Dean of Academic Affairs (a petition form may be requested from the Office of the Registrar).

Prospective students who need detailed assistance before submitting an application for admission may contact the Office of Admissions for advisement.

Returning/Continuing Students:

Any student who has previously taken courses at UWest is classified as a “returning student.”


New Students:

  1. A student who has never taken courses at UWest or who has just been readmitted to the program is classified as a “new student.” New Continuing Education students must complete an admission application form and submit it to the Office of Admissions and Registrar upon registration.
  2. Undergraduate or graduate degree students (To be full-time, an undergraduate must enroll in 12 units or more, and a graduate student must enroll in 9 units or more.)
  3. Continuing Education students (students not officially admitted into a degree or certificate program)
  4. Auditors (Auditors do not receive academic credit and are not required to take tests or write papers.)
  5. English as a Second Language Certificate Program (ESL) students taking at least 20 hours of instruction per week
  6. Registration begins six weeks before the first day of instruction for Fall and Spring Semesters and five weeks before the first day of instruction for Summer Semester. Student admission status must be clarified upon registration. All payments must be made upon registration.

Students are encouraged to seek advisement prior to registration. Advisors in each department can assist students in selecting appropriate courses and planning a course of study. Please refer to each department for their individual office hours.
