Ven. Dr. Thich An Hue, also known as Claude Ware, was born on September 2, 1919 and passed away on March 19, 2009. He earned a master’s degree in music in 1948 and a Ph.D. in psychology in the 1960s. Ven. Dr. An Hue began studying Buddhism in 1965 in the Japanese Buddhist tradition at a Zen temple in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. Ven. Dr. An Hue was ordained as a Buddhist monk in 1981, at Fo Guang Shan monastery. In 1987, he joined and made a great contribution to the establishment and development of Dieu-Phap Temple in the City of San Gabriel and the Bao-Phap Monastery in Azusa. In 1997, Ven. Dr. An Hue became a volunteer-faculty member of University of the West and was promoted to Chair of the Department of Religious Studies there until his retirement in 2006. In honor of Ven. Dr. An Hue’s legacy, the Ven. Dr. Thich An Hue Scholarship Fund was established to support students enrolled at the University of the West. Scholarship Requirements:
