Joshua Capitanio earned his Ph.D. in East Asian Languages and Cultures from University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Chinese language teaching fellow.

Dr. Capitanio was also a fellow at Peking University and conducted advanced graduate research there. He has also worked on a dictionary of medieval Chinese vernacular translated into English.
