Miroj Shakya is Assistant Professor and Assistant Chair in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of the West. Dr. Shakya earned his Ph.D. in Religious Studies specializing in Buddhist Studies from University of the West. Dr. Shakya’s research revolves around Indian Religions, Indian Buddhism, Newar Buddhism, Sanskrit Buddhist texts, Pali and Sanskrit Language.
He is a Project Coordinator of the Digital Sanskrit Buddhist Canon Project and Rare Buddhist Sanskrit Manuscript Preservation Project. He is also a convener of the Sanskrit Language Working Group, Union Catalogue of Buddhist Texts, which is being sponsored by the International Association of Buddhist Universities (IABU), Bangkok, Thailand.
Dr. Shakya was a visiting scholar at ECAI, International Area Studies, University of California, Berkeley in the spring semester, 2008. He edited the “Catalog of Digitized Rare Sanskrit Buddhist Manuscript” series. Recently, he co-edited the revised edition of the book “Sacred Art of Nepal,” which was published in 2013.
