ROSEMEAD, CALIF, OCTOBER 23, 2011: University of the West, the only Buddhist-founded university with accreditation in Los Angeles County, will honor on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, its many donors with a banquet ceremony.
Traditionally, this is an opportunity for students to thank donors for scholarship contributions or for their donations to the physical campus. UWest enrolled just over 250 students in fall 2011.
In 2011, donors worldwide created a $1 million Lotus Scholarship fund that makes available to students entering UWest in the 2012 school year 150 scholarships of $5,000 or $10,000. Full time undergraduate tuition is about $8,000 per year.
Also in 2011, donors provided UWest with $80,000 to build a new outdoor basketball court for student recreation.
“As our reputation and study body continues to grow, many donors are emerging to support this unique institution within the American higher-education landscape,” said UWest President C.S. “Sam” Wu.
The Donor Appreciation Banquet will be held in newly remodeled UWest dining hall at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011.
