University of the West Alumni Association (UWAA) was inaugurated on September 10th, 2011 in celebrating UWest 20th Anniversary. Dr. Chin-Shun Wu, President of the University of the West (UWest), Dr. Locke, Dean of Administration, and 30 alumni and current students attended this inauguration.
In the President’s opening speech, he expressed his joy on seeing alumni coming back to UWest campus and welcomed everyone to continue to support UWest. President Wu ended his speech saying, “I’m looking forward to seeing you some time in the future as one of our big donors.” The Dean Locke shared with everyone on the improvement of UWest and the diversity of student bodies over the pass twenty years.
“UWEST has been a part of our lives for many years, rushing for classes and sleepless nights during examination week…” remarked by Ming-Hsien Wang, President of UWAA “…After graduated from UWest, we begin our new journey in the society. Now, we are still being part of UWest with the establishment of UWAA. As we all spread out into different countries around the world, let us continue to stay connected.” Wang graduated from UWest MBA program in 2009 and now he serves as the CEO of Rosemead Chamber of Commerce. He wishes to contribute himself to his Alma Mater as UWest support him. He hopes all of alumni should be proud of UWest as UWest proud of you.
On the day of inauguration, experts in immigration law and insurance were invited to share their experiences and insights to all alumni and students, which was very beneficial to our alumni as well as our current students. Around thirty participants learned a lot of knowledge from these two workshops.
Starting last year, President Wu has started to contact the alumni that are still in Los Angeles and discussed on the possibility of establishing alumni association of UWest. This has been intensified in the past five months where President Wu and a dozen of our UWAA initial committee members met almost every Sunday, contributing time, idea, and effort to make this come true. Besides discussing the details on the establishment of UWAA, the committee also discussed the ways to improve UWest and ways to promote UWest through alumni.
The mission of the University of the West Alumni Association (UWAA) is to promote the interest and welfare of University of the West (UWEST) and its alumni, to increase the level of communication and promote positive lifelong relationships between alumni and our Alma Mater, to encourage fellowship among the alumni, to offer spiritual, social, and lifelong learning opportunities to our alumni, and to establish a worldwide alumni network.
