An Excellent Field Trip that both Enlightened Us and Optimized Our Knowledge Base!
Wednesday February 15th, 2017
UWest Entrepreneurship Club hosted a field trip to the LA Federal Reserve Bank, joined by 20+ participants, including BA & MBA students. This trip was organized by Entrepreneurship Club Advisor, Prof. Meskerem Tadesse. Housing Director Juan Tinoco and Career Service Coordinator Howard Luong were also a part of the tour group.
During the tour, students learned about the history of US currency (including the earlier coin denominations and the various developments and variations of notes, some high-price denominations that do not make it to the general public’s arena). We also got to see how the Fed (effectively the bank of banks) processes and manages the circulation of money, including how it maintains the integrity and validity of US-denominated currencies in the market by identifying, and even shredding old and fake money and replacing with new bills—All under the Federal Reserve Bank! Each of us were given a souvenir—a packet of shredded money!
After students returned to campus, the group was joined by President Morgan and Entrepreneurship Club Co-Advisor and Bus. Dept. Chair Bill Chen for a group lunch held at the UWest Cafeteria patio—hosted by Student Housing. This lunch was a great opportunity to discuss our experience and share our respective insights. This Trip Was Both Fun & Meaningful!
