Message from President Ta: Return to Spring 2022

by | Oct 28, 2021 | News

Dear UWest Community,

I hope the fall semester is going well. We are more than half-way through the fall semester, and it is time to prepare for the spring semester. In Spring 2022, we will return to primarily in-person classes. At this time, 85% of our spring classes are scheduled to include an in-person component. While there will be online courses in spring, it will be difficult for students to register for a completely online schedule of classes. Registration for spring classes begins on 11/1-11/29/2021.

Given the near 95% vaccination rate within the UWest community, and over 80% vaccination rate within the San Gabriel Valley, a vaccine mandate, the requirement for face masks and contact tracing on campus, we remain confident in our health and safety plan. Our COVID-19 Update link provides the guideline for healthy campus practices.  We have continued to follow the CDC and LA Health Dept. guidelines to mitigate the COVID-19 virus on our campus. A key element of this plan is that all UWest employee and student members must adhere to the vaccine/exemption mandate. Since the vaccine has been fully approved by the FDA, exemption would only be granted for medical reason. Dr. Keith Brown in Student Services will accept student attestations for students who will not be coming to campus at all during the spring 2022 semester.

With all of us doing our part to follow the plan, we are confident in our safe return to campus for Spring 2022. I appreciate your decision to continue your education during these challenging times. I appreciated the resilience, flexibility, and perseverance of our community throughout the pandemic. Thank you, stay healthy and safe!

In Community Spirit!

President Ta
