Title IX/Gender-Based Discrimination/Sexual Misconduct

In accordance with UWest mission and values as well as Federal and State laws, UWest does not tolerate gender-based discrimination/sexual misconduct. University of the West’s Non-Discrimination Policy is as follows:


It is the policy of University of the West (UWest), Rosemead, CA not to discriminate on the basis of sex, age, race, color, physical disability, sexual preference, and/or national and ethnic origin in its educational programs, student activities, employment or admission policies, in the administration of its scholarship and loan programs, or in any other school-administered programs.

This policy complies with requirements of the Internal Revenue Service Procedure 321-1, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and Title IX of the 1972 Educational Amendments as amended and enforced by the Department of Health & Human Services.


Sexual misconduct constituting sexual violence is a form of sex discrimination and is prohibited by Title IX of the Education Code and other federal and state laws. UWest follows a multi-pronged approach to educating the community in ways to prevent the occurrence of sexual misconduct.

Title IX of the Education Act requires gender equity for students of all genders in every educational program that receives federal funding. Specifically, the law states:

“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

All forms of sexual violence are considered to be serious offenses. Prohibited behaviors include sexual harassment, sexual assault & non-consensual sexual contact dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, relationship abuse, sexual exploitation, and intimidation.

Sexual violence can be committed by individuals of any gender, regardless of an individual’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression, and can occur between individuals of the same gender or different genders, strangers or acquaintances, as well as people involved in intimate or sexual relationships.
