Applications & Room Assignments
How and when are room assignments made?
Room assignments begin several weeks before each semester starts.
How can I request a specific roommate?
Roommate preferences and other special requests may be included in your online housing application. All requested roommates must name one another in writing for the request to be considered.
To make a roommate request after submitting your application, email housing@uwest.edu .
When can I move in?
Students requesting an early arrival must obtain approval from the Residential Life Coordinator. Approved early arrivals are charged a prorated daily rate until their semester housing contract begins.
Early arrival requests depend on whether rooms can be prepared and made available in time.
Can a student end a housing agreement early to move off campus?
The housing agreement is legally binding. Students who move out before their agreement ends remain responsible for the full contracted amount.
According to the existing policy, students who withdraw from the university before their agreement ends are not penalized.

Housing Policies & University Breaks
What are the Residence Halls rules?
UWest is a dry campus. Alcohol and recreational drugs are prohibited, and smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor areas.
Residents should review the complete Residence Hall Guidelines and remember that living in a shared community requires consideration for others.
What if I cannot go home during breaks?
The residence halls remain open throughout the year. Fall and spring housing agreements cover their respective semesters, while winter and summer housing require additional arrangements and applicable fees.
Housing during winter and summer breaks is typically available only to continuing residents who lived in campus housing during the preceding semester. Thanksgiving and spring breaks are included in the respective semester contracts.
During semester and holiday breaks, may students leave their belongings in their rooms?
Students without a housing contract covering a particular period should be prepared to remove their belongings from the residence hall.
Who is responsible for a student's property?
The university does not assume responsibility for residents' personal belongings.
All belongings must be removed when checking out. Items left behind may be discarded at the resident's expense or become university property.
Can I have overnight guests in my residence hall room?
Overnight guests are not permitted. Guests are not covered by the university's insurance policy.
Student Support & Campus Safety
Is it possible for students to be employed in the residence halls?
Limited employment opportunities are available for Residential Assistants (RAs).
RAs receive a room fee waiver in exchange for supporting residents and helping organize residential life activities. Check campus announcements for available positions.
What fire safety precautions are in place in the residence halls?
Residence halls have a fire alarm system. When an alarm sounds, residents must evacuate immediately and gather by the gazebo on the lawn with staff and other residents.
Smoking, burning incense, candles, open flames, and other burning materials are prohibited.
What security measures are in place in the residence halls?
The main entrance doors to the residence halls are accessible by key card and must remain closed at all times to ensure everyone's safety. Room doors are accessible by a keyless entry accessible via your cell phone. Doors should never be propped open.
Our live-in residential assistants are on duty overnight (5 PM – 9 AM) every weekday and 24 hours on weekends and school holidays. Staff also regularly monitors the private residential group chat.
The public areas of the dorms are equipped with security cameras. UWest's campus security guards are on duty overnight every weekday and 24 hours on weekends and school holidays. Their regular rounds include the Recreation Center as well as the areas around the residence halls.
