How to Request Accommodations

Students seeking accommodations based on a disability must follow these steps:

  • Self-Identify – Students must disclose their need for accommodations to the Student Disability Services (SDS) Officer, located in the Academic Support Center.
  • Provide Documentation – Students must submit current documentation (within the last 3 years) supporting their disability.
  • Submit an Application – Documentation should be submitted along with a completed Accommodation Request Application.
  • Meet with the SDS Officer – The SDS Officer will review the request, discuss accommodations, and determine appropriate support services.
  • Receive a Decision – Students will be notified in writing regarding the outcome of their accommodation request.

🚨 Please note that UWest does not provide disability testing. Students needing an assessment should seek external testing services.

Using & Renewing Accommodations

  • Accommodations Are Not Automatically Transferred – Students must reapply for accommodations for each course and future semesters.
  • To Continue Receiving Accommodations – Students must meet with the SDS Officer at the beginning of each term to renew their request.

How Accommodations Are Arranged

  • Approval by the SDS Officer – All accommodations must be reviewed and approved by the SDS Officer.
  • Coordination with Instructors – The SDS Officer will work directly with instructors to ensure accommodations are properly implemented.
  • Ongoing Support – Throughout the term, the SDS Officer will check in with students to assess effectiveness and make adjustments as needed.
