Intensive English Program (IEP)

  1. Who it’s for: Students who want to develop effective communication skills for personal and academic settings.
  2. Structure: Six levels of full-time learning, with students progressing based on placement tests or challenge exams.
  3. Classes: 20 hours per week, available in four-week blocks.
  4. Focus: Develop skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, with cultural integration and field trips.
  5. Completion: Students earn a Certificate of Completion upon achieving a 2.7 GPA with no ‘F’ grades.

Program in American Cultural Exchange (PACE)

  1. Who it’s for: Short-term groups looking for English and cultural immersion.
  2. Structure: Tailored programs for various ages, professions, and interests.
  3. Features: Live on campus and explore Los Angeles attractions.

Academic English Bridge (Bridge)

  1. Who it’s for: Students preparing to transition to college-level studies.
  2. Structure: Academic English preparation with a mix of language and degree courses.
  3. Classes: 3 units each, 3 hours per week, 16-week term.
  4. Credit Applicability: Some Bridge courses award credit applicable toward a degree program.

English Conversation and Culture (ECC)

  1. Who it’s for: Part-time students who want to develop their conversation skills and US cultural awareness.
  2. Structure: Flexible enrollment with a focus on real-world conversation skills.
  3. Classes: 15 hours per week, available in four-week blocks.
  4. Visa Eligibility: ECC is not for F-1 visa holders.

Placement & Program Completion

How are students placed in levels?

Every student takes the English Proficiency Test (EPT) at the start of their program. Results determine the best level for each student.

How long does it take to complete a level?

    • Each level consists of four blocks (four months total).
    • Students may advance faster by passing a challenge test.
    • A 2.7 GPA with no ‘F’ grades is required to move to the next level.

What do I receive upon completion?

  • IEP students receive a Certificate of Completion upon meeting program requirements.
  • Bridge students may earn academic credit toward their degree.

    F-1 Visa Eligibility:
  • IEP, Bridge, and PACE programs qualify for F-1 visas.

    Does ELI tuition cover housing and other fees?

    1. No, tuition covers enrollment in ELI courses only. Additional costs include books, housing, and insurance.

    What is the typical class size?

    1. Classes average 6-10 students, allowing for more personal interaction and focused instruction.

    How long does it take to reach an advanced level?

    1. Advancement depends on individual progress, GPA, and successful completion of assessments.

    Is there on-campus housing?
